What is ISF?
ISF is an electronic filing requirement imposed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). It involves submitting key information about the imported goods at least 24 hours prior to the cargo's departure from the port of origin.
Why is ISF required?
ISF (Importer Security Filing), commonly known as importer's security declaration, is a security measure implemented by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Its purpose is to enhance the safety of imported goods and prevent smuggling and terrorist activities. Failure to file as required may result in delays, fines, or other legal liabilities.
Who Can Submit an ISF?
It is typically the responsibility of the importer themselves or their authorized agents, (such as freight forwarders, customs brokers, or logistics companies) to submit the ISF information.
Specifically
-Importer: The business or individual directly responsible for the declaration.
-Authorized Agent: Such as freight forwarders, customs brokers, or logistics companies, authorized by the importer to submit the declaration on their behalf.
